Trend Watch: Summer Leather

by on July 9, 2012

I know, leather in the summer sounds kind of overwhelming, but don’t sweat it! There’s a lot that can be done with the luxe material even in the warmer weather.

The designers at D&G, Alexander McQueen and Chloé agree – a hint of leather is perfect in any season. I’d save your leather leggings/pants for the fall season, but don’t be afraid to whip out your leather jacket for cool nights, or to go a little further with a leather t-shirt or tank top (a la Celine).

I’m trying to get my hands on a pair of leather/pleather shorts – I’m still upset with myself for not getting these Wilfred Faux Leather Shorts from Aritzia (the shinier ones on the bottom) when they first came out in 2010. I’d wear them in the evening as they are a little on the dressy side, but then again paired with a simple t-shirt  in the daytime would be great too.

The trend goes for both girls and guys, as Tyga was seen wearing a camel-colored Dior Homme leather tee at last week’s BET Awards.

What do you think? Would you wear leather in the summer?

I’d wear leather …under the right conditions. Tyga’s camel tee i think looked great with the gold accents he chose. Clearly you won’t wear it on a 90 degree day … but if you know for a fact you going from car to club or in this case an awards show, you know the air will be pumping at the very least keep the makeup from melting. Your ability to pull of leather in the summers says a lot about the person and their ability to be cool in it. Not to mention there are different leather weights and skins, like a nice butter soft lamb ….. word.
