Yeezy Taught Her: From Kim K to Kimye

by on July 27, 2012

Ladies, if you’re familiar with Kim Kardashian’s style you know that her look has evolved since getting with Kanye West – instead of dressing in her signature curve-hugging brights, she’s opting for more neutral tones in sleek proportions. Guys, here’s your excuse to look at pictures of Kim K.

If you’ve ever watched ‘Keeping Up with the Kardashians,’ read a magazine with Kim on the cover, or engaged with any sort of media coverage of the Kardashians (it’s kind of impossible not to), you know that Kim is most recognizable with a face full of makeup, a form-fitting outfit, long loose waves, and lots of bright accents.

Since teaming up with Kanye West to form one of the most high-profile celebrity couples in recent history, she’s left her old look in the past. Now wearing a constant rotation of black, white, nude, leather, and heavy metals, Kim is almost unrecognizable these days.

On the left side is Kim, pre-Kanye. On the right, the new Kimye.

Thanks to Kanye West, Kim has said goodbye to her hair extensions and heavy makeup and hello to slicked back straight hair with a less done-up face. I think this change is for the better, since she had sometimes looked over-done and a bit plastic-y in the past. It’s well-known that the rapper has basically stepped in as her new stylist – on a recent episode of ‘KUWTK,’ Kim shows off a huge rack of clothes he had sent to her. Her [new] favorite designers are apparently Lanvin, Celine & Givenchy. Hmm, I wonder why!

As you can also see, Kim’s outfits have become less-and-less form-fitting. Although she still occasionally wears tight dresses that show off her curves, she’s seen lately in looser outfits in longer lengths, not to mention neutral colors. I do like this change in style – Kim looks very ladylike and subdued, still beautiful – but there’s no denying that she looks a lot older. Some of the more structured, runway-worthy pieces she’s been seen in (like this one or this dolman-style, loose top) don’t really flatter her hourglass figure, making her look a little heavy in some places. And who would have guessed that we’d see Kim out in sweats/a sweatshirt on purpose?! The times are definitely changing.

What do you think of Kim’s new look? Do you prefer her old style?
