Name Change: YSL –> Saint Laurent Paris

by on August 30, 2012

Sticking with the YSL theme I’ve created today, I thought it was only fitting to discuss the fact that come Fall, Yves Saint Laurent will be officially changing its name to Saint Laurent Paris.

While strolling through San Francisco the other day and seeing the under-construction YSL store (it seems like it’s been in renovation forever), I noticed that instead of seeing the classic “YSL” logo, I saw Saint Laurent emblazoned across the black walls. It kind of threw me for a loop and I figured it was a typo, but after perusing the Internet, apparently my favorite fashion house has officially changed its name to Saint Laurent Paris, ditching Yves altogether.

I can’t say that I’m too pleased about this change since I’ve always loved the sound of Yves (pronounced ‘eves’ if you didn’t know) Saint Laurent, and the YSL logo. To have such a classic name changed is disappointing and almost a little disrespectful to the man that created it so many years ago.

Hedi Slimane, YSL’s creative director.

Hedi Slimane, YSL’s new creative director, is the man responsible for this switch up – I’m sorry but what gives him the right, beyond his title, to make such a drastic and concrete change?!

I know I’ll still be calling it YSL – I refuse to make the switch to SLP!

What do you think of the name change? Let me know in the comments section.
