We’ll cut right to the chase and talk about a few celebs who looked bangin’ last night, and who needed a little help in the fashion department.
Rita Ora in a custom Gucci jumpsuit – I thought I should start with this look because I’m on the fence about it. I love the bottom half, the intricate beading, and the fact that this was custom-made for her – but the top-half of this has away too wide & deep V-cut.
Young Money (spec. Drake, Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne and Tyga) - it’s safe to say that they were all one big fashion nightmare. Nicki is frequently seen in these tight bodysuits that are flattering of her posterior, but ugly nonetheless. That wig and hat are like Big Bird & Skipper had a baby, a.k.a completely unnecessary and a terrible combination. I’m waiting for the day that Nicki shows up looking pretty, not insane. Drake looked absolutely terrible – that hurts, coming from a fan. His shirt was too tight, showing too much neck & chest, his eyebrows looked way too groomed, and those skinny jeans were too much on him. Tyga was just too red last night, but I think it was those OJ Simpson gloves that really threw his look off for me. Wayne wore headphones throughout the entire show, and a sloppy I-Don’t-Give-A-F*ck outfit (typical of him). He was the cherry on top for this terrible group-look.
2 Chainz in Versace everything – great that it was his first VMA’s, great that his album has been a success, great that he has money; but this outfit is absolutely terrible. Hideous shoes, hideous pants, and too much gold going on in general. He looks like a past era spit him out (because they didn’t even want to be a part of that oufit) and left him on the award show’s carpet.
I was really happy for Chris Brown when he won for Best Male Video, and it’s safe to say that he was one of the better dressed men out last night. His suit was nothing over-the-top, but he looked nice in it. He’s definitely looking skinnier than I’d like him to, and that blue strip of hair is rather interesting, but I give props to Chris. If anything, he looked better than Drake! (Sorry, Drake).
Rihanna was definitely the best dressed last night – she looked serene, elegant, but youthful in her beautiful white dress, gorgeous makeup, and new ‘do. However on the stage, she looked nothing less than a mess. The red leather leggings could have stayed, but that sheer long tunic, red hair piece, and black shoes had to go.
Who knew that Kesha could clean up so nice?! Under all that glitter, wild makeup and terrible outfits is a beautiful swan waiting to be dressed in the right outfit and toned-down makeup. I thought she looked really pretty for the first time in a long time – her dress suited her but still was classier & more sophisticated than usual, while her hair & makeup was perfect. Props to Kesha!
Taylor Swift, why are you wearing a pantsuit? You’re 22 with great legs (as we saw at the end of the show), show yourself off! Instead of looking sophisticated or fashionable, I think this look just aged her and didn’t do her any favors. Also, her eye makeup drowns her already small eyes, I was having a difficult time seeing them even when the camera was up-close. Not a good look.
I’m so happy that Katy Perry looked as beautiful as she did last night! We’re so used to seeing her look like a dessert/ some sort of food item or just ridiculous that it was nice change to see her as elegant and beautiful as she was. Not everyone could pull off that dress, but Katy definitely did – her old Hollywood hair complimented it perfectly, and her makeup was gorgeous. Good for all of those One Direction boys that got to kiss her.
Forget the outfits of Wiz Khalifa and Amber Rose, the best part of their ensemble was little baby Wiz/Amber, who was officially confirmed to be growing in Amber’s belly last night. They looked totally in love so it was hard to knock the happy parents-to-be. Although I didn’t love Amber’s dress, she was glowing – and Wiz’s cropped pants get a pardon for how cute he was doting over Amber and their baby-to-be.
As a quick recap, I didn’t think there were too many standout men of the night, and Rihanna and Katy Perry (who were canoodling the entire night) left most other women in the dust. My favorite parts of the night were the quick camera jump to Swizz Beatz and darling Egypt during Mama Alicia Keys’ performance, as well as the Rihanna & Chris Brown hug & kiss that wasn’t televised (to my knowledge).
