Trend Watch: Polka Dot Perfection

by on September 28, 2012

Thanks to Nasty Gal, I’ve found a few of my favorite blouses that are spot on with the polka dot trend.

I’ve actually never been the biggest polka dot fan (aside from a pair of pink polka dot flats I loved when I was younger), but I must say that the trend is growing on me. Technically a classic, polka dots are youthful but ladylike – and in my opinion, an almost retro look in some ways. These blouses from Nasty Gal are some of my favorite ways to wear the trend – I’ll break down my favorite things about them below.

The ‘Formerly Known As Blouse,’ ‘Opposites Attract Blouse,’ ‘Pierrot Dot Knit,’ and ‘Dotted Crop Shirt’ from Nasty Gal.

The Formerly Known As blouse by MinkPink ($98) is black, sheer, has a long/short hem, and of course has gorgeous velvety polka dots – it’s a very chic statement piece that looks good with a bright pant (as worn on the model), and in an all-black look to add a pop of texture.

The Opposites Attract blouse ($38) is definitely a non-traditional top to wear – the mixed stripe and polka dot pattern is a daring fashion risk, as so many people find mixing prints to be a no-no. I think this top is a winner just for the fact that it’s like nothing I’ve seen before.

The Pierrot Dot Knit by MinkPink ($88) is a great way to wear the trend in cooler weather – pair it with some coated denim or leather leggings and you’re full speed ahead to Chic City.

Finally, the Dotted Crop Shirt ($48) is an adorable way to keep the long-gone summer in your grasp – the sleeveless style makes it perfect for layering under jackets – maybe a leather one with some seriously skinny black jeans? I think yes.

What do you think of the polka dot trend? How about these tops from Nasty Gal? Let me know in the comments section.
