Might the Duro Olowu x JCPenny collaboration help revive the brand?

by on April 16, 2013

Rumors had once flown around that JCPenny’s was soon to be out of business. The one time famous department store has been growing in obscurity compared to other leading competitors like Macy’s and Lord and Taylor. However, I knew that this fiasco could not mean long-term defeat when Nick Wooster, style God, stepped in as senior vice president of product and design! Many may be familiar with Wooster from his work at Neiman Marcus, Ralph Lauren Polo, and Bergdorf Goodman to name a few. On the other hand, you may also be familiar with him from his candidness. Recently at a Women’s Wear Daily conference he offered a response to the crowds negative reception to the JCP retailer, “I’m going to get in trouble for saying this, but [we need to] make cute shit,” but JCP supported this remark. JCP is all for transformation in a time of desperation! nick-wooster

Luckily, this desperate effort will be only short term. I believe that their collaboration with Nigerian born designer Duro Olowu is a great start. As the first designer collab, I find it amazing that the apparel is affordable with prices from $10-$100, and actually offers  “cute shit! The London based designer’s pieces offer a great selection for spring with bold colors, detailed accessories and an eclectic use of shapes.

I may be a bit delayed with just finding out about this wonderful alliance, but the clothing is still available online and in stores until May! Also, to those of you who cannot afford the high fashion looks of Kenzo and Miu Miu this is a great substitute–especially if your trying to achieve that easy breezy Solange look!
