Recap: The 2013 MET Gala

by on May 7, 2013

Anna Wintour brought some fun to the season with the creatively selected theme of yesterday evenings MET GALA-- Punk: chaos to couture. The red carpet filled with never ending styles from each stars interpretation of what it truly means to be “Punk”. Some looks had us trying our best to not blink while others had us taking notes for new funky hairstyles and risk taking fashions. Givenchy seemed to have been a favorite for the night, but Beyoncé’s baroque inspired dress with train and matching thigh high boots and gloves weren’t the only surprises for the night.

The night was not made for those who wanted to “play it safe”. The Oscars of Fashion as they like to call it brought back Madonna! Seen with her new beaux, Brahim Zaibat, and Riccardo Tisci (designer of her ensemble), she shows us all that she only gets younger with age. She definetly embodied the theme of the night. “The Queen of Pop” has been for making statements for her interesting choice of outfits and I’m sure this won’t be her last. The last time the now Givenchy creative director and Madge collaborated was for her memorable Superbowl XLVI performance.

The other talk of the night–besides the designers was hair!! So many celebs surprised all with their daring and unexpected altered do’s. Anne Hathaway looked breath taking in her Valentino cut-out but her blonde locs put the icing on the cake. Hathaway tells Vogue.com that “I don’t know that you could tell it by looking at me, but Debbie Harry was (my inspiration).” I’m sure the “Rapture” singer will take kindly to the compliment. Another surprise was Nicole Richie.  Her hair was said to have been sprayed, so unlike Anne Hathaway her do may be not-so permanent, unfortunately because I was un love the color. It reminded me of Kelly Osbourne’s eclectic color. Then Solange Knowles channels the sexiness and sass of Pam Grier’s 70’s Foxy Brown character with her one-legged cut-out Kenzo dress and perfectly puffed afro of the night.

The last highlight of the night but certainly not least was the stylish couples. With baby on board, Kimye, had everyone talking! The couple flossed in Givenchy, but more favored Mr. West’s tux versus Kim Kardashian’s full sleeve/gloved dress; however, I thought the couple looked fairly nice together. Haters always going to hate. *Kanye shrug* Other hot looking duos of the night were Tom Brady and model wife Gisele Bündchen, Olivia Wilde and fiancé SNL’s Jason Sudeikis, and Pharrell’s punk rock eyelined look along with fiancé Helen.

The night was for sure a memorable one. Instagram aided in sharing all the selfies of the night. I can’t wait to see what next year has in store. Share your thoughts.
