EVENT RECAP: Macklemore and Ryan Lewis Presented By Bacardi Rebels

by on May 21, 2013

In their first partnership with Rolling Stone Magazine, Bacardi Rebels hosted a show featuring Fitz and the Tantrums and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. Perfectly themed in a Latin American flavor, Bacardi dressed up Roseland Ballroom with endless drinks, a t-shirt station, video station and a mojito truck. Hit the jump for more!

The line lapped Roseland ballroom with eager fans ready to see Macklemore perform the only song of his they’ve really ever heard– “Thrift Shop.” DJ Cassidy greeted the guests with an adorable pink pantsuit and signature cream hat, playing hits like Drake’s “Started From the Bottom,” Eminem’s “Lose Yourself,” and Snoop Lion’s “Nuthin’ But a “G” Thang.” Fans weren’t the only ones losing themselves in DJ Cassidy’s set; the event brought in a number of celebrities including Jamie Foxx, Kaylee Defer (from Gossip Girl- totally geeked when I saw her), Melanie Fiona, Alessandra Ambrosio, Jason Derulo and more!

Bacardi had the liquor flowing and had the ingenious idea of serving coconut with rum inside (see below). Summer is definitely here and Bacardi ushered it in with Mojitos, coconuts and Fitz and the Tantrums. Having been called “The Band to Watch in 2011″ by Rolling Stone, Fitz and The Tantrums delivered powerful and energetic set, exciting old fans and definitely gaining new ones.

When Macklemore finally took to the stage, fans were boozed up and ready to pop some tags. Calvin, an ILS associate, and I made our way backstage–still confused how– and watched him perform his most emotional and meaningful song to date, “Same Love.” He even included a costume change in his set, you know that’s when things get real, and came out wearing a blonde wig and cape for a few songs. It didn’t really matter what this Billboard Music Award winner wore, the audience was captivated by him regardless with remarks like “how the hell did he blow up like this?” milling throughout the audience. Just the start to his amazing summer!

OH! and in case you guys were wondering, Macklemore does not know how to twerk. I asked just in case.

No mention of how Rolling Stone and Bacardi overbooked the event by several thousands of people? The vast majority of people with general admission tickets did not get in. Giving everyone tickets and then blocking most of them from entering is a horrible way to run an event.
