Nike’s Influence on Women’s Basketball

by on June 4, 2013

In the past few years, we’ve seen women’s basketball grow tremendously, particularly in 1997 when the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) was founded. Being the largest sportswear and athletic shoe corporation, Nike has undoubtedly been a part of the sport’s success as they have continued to produce the most innovative shoes since the beginning. That year, Nike released the Air Swoopes, named after the women’s basketball legend herself, Sheryl Swoopes. Today, as more attention is being focused on the sport and league, we are seeing not only more fashion correspondence, but more importantly the spotlight on increasingly more and more empowering and influential women of the sport. This year, much attention has been brought to the three girls who were the first, second, and third draft picks for women’s basketball. They go by the names of Brittney Griner, Elena Delle Donne, and Skyler Diggins, also known as “The Big Three“. Chicago Sky vs Phoenix Mercury Chicago Sky vs Phoenix Mercury

While the three girls are exceeding in their sport, Nike Basketball has stepped in from the beginning to ensure their comfort and shoes that are made to help them play their dominated sport easier and more efficiently. Griner and Delle Donne have been consistently wearing the Nike Hyperdisruptor, while Diggins has been seen in the KOBE 8‘s in her game. Throughout their careers, Nike will do all they can (which we know is a lot!) to ensure The Big Three successful and everlasting pursuits. Make sure to keep up with Brittney, Elena, and Skyler in their games in the coming seasons as well as their attire, based and created by no one less than Nike.
