Roc Nation Sports, Jay-Z‘s sports agency subsidiary of Roc Nation, recently announced their signing of Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant. KD tops Roc Nation‘s list of illustrious athletes to sign with the agency; other signees being Yankee’s second baseman Robinson Cano, Tulsa Shock guard Skylar Diggins, Jets quarterback Geno Smith, and Giants wideout Victor Cruz.
Although young, Roc Nation Sports has already begun to establish itself as one of the premier sports agencies, and the Kevin Durant signing has been nothing less than a verification of Roc Nation‘s stature. Roc Nation Sports could not have made a better move by adding Kevin Durant, a bonafide international superstar, to their list of clients. While the future of Roc Nation Sports is immeasurably bright, this move also brings up questions concerning Kevin Durant‘s future.
Durant is under contract to stay with the Oklahoma City Thunder through the 2015-2016 season, but some Thunder fans may begin to doubt his level commitment because of a short tenure with Landmark Sports before signing with Jay-Z. Judging from his offseason actions, most recently committing $1M of his own money toward Oklahoma tornado relief efforts, OKC fans should have nothing to worry about. However, it will be interesting to see Hov‘s influence on the admirably modest superstar.
What we should really be questioning is what Jay‘s next move will be. After selling his share of the Nets (presumably profiting) and establishing Roc Nation Sports, it seems like Hov‘s next move is always his biggest these days. Who knows what Shawn Carter‘s master plan could be…
